Why is PoE So AWESOME?

There are many very cool and unique things about this game and everyone should give it a try, it's free after all! Here are some examples:

Skills:
Skills are actually Gems that drop in the game and are rewarded from quests as you progress. For example, there is a skill Gem called Fireball which is low level. Skill gems are in 3 different colors, Red/Blue/Green. If you had a piece of gear with a red socket in it, you can place you Fireball gem into the socket. With fireball gem now on your gear, you get the option to map the hot key. If it is your first spell it will be right click. You only can have the skills that are socketed in your gear at any particular time.

This get's a little advanced because there are so many different gems, and some are called "support" gems. For example there is a Greater Multiple Projectiles gem which happens to be green. Now if a particular item had a green and red socket... AND they were linked, then you could put the 2 skills in there and now your fireball would shoot 3 instead of 1. Links are a random property of the item which connects the sockets. The sockets need to be linked for support gems to work. ANY Class can use ANY gem they just have str/dex/int requirements.

To add to this, the gems themselves level up 1-20. All socketed gems get 10 percent of your killing experience even when not used. As you level up your gems themselves level up and get stronger and require more mana etc. You can even sell and buy already leveled gems. To go even further, there is a mechanic called Quality which applies to all items (so maps/skills are included). Item quality is a rare bonus it may have, which also has 20 levels. Most items you find have quality 0. Using specific items you can increase the quality of your items. For maps it is something called a cartographers chisel. Each one you put on a map adds to the "ammount of loot dropped". The item to increase SKILL quality are pretty expensive and the main currency. So trying to get all your skills to 20 quality will take a shit load of time. Or you can buy someones +9 or something they found and take it up to 20 or leave it there. Most people will never actually upgrade the quality of their skills because the item that does it is expensive and its worth trading that item for an item you need instead.... unless you are endgame.


It's all about the Items:
There are a lot of "currency" orbs that drop throughout the game. These orbs actually function as the main source of currency. Each orb (of varying value) does somethign to an item. For example, there are orbs that make a white item into a blue, or a white item into a yellow. (white (common), blue (magic), yellow (rare). There are orbs that reroll the number of sockets on an item, there are orbs that try to reforge the links of an item. All of these are very random. If you wanted a 5 socket chest you may have to use 50 of the Roll socket items on it before you reach 5. Then if you wanted to say support your fireball with 4 support gems ( Fireball + Crit + projectiles + faster cast + aoe) you would need these to be LINKED. The chance of using the link item to link all 5 sockets is RARE again.
So alternatively, you could look for nice white items with 4 or 5 linked sockets... and then turn it into a rare. The rare might not have the stats you want so you could use another orb to reroll the stats.


No Auction House/ No Gold:
Yes there is no gold. Your net worth is based on how valuable the items and skill gems you have are. The main way to trade items is to trade orbs for the item. So if you have an item to sell, its better to sell it for an orb, then use the orbs to either try to make your own item or trade for something you need. EVERYTHING is barter.. you can't just sit and refresh the auction house for 10 years. It's really amazing how it works! There is a global trade chat (it is an MMO). On top of that... since the currency is USABLE there is less chance for runaway inflation that happens with Gold games.

End Game:
Even the end game is an item. Similar to D2 there are 3 difficulty levels. The end of the last difficulty is around monster level 64. Anytime after level 60 monster they have a chance to drop a "map". Maps ARE the end game. And they too have random stats, that you can reroll. You take the maps to an eternal laboratory device and use it, it opens up 6 portals to a special Map area. These maps are NEW tile sets that are constantly evolving. The maps themselves will say something like "Tropical Island Map" and have an associated monster level ,like 68. I can use an orb on the map to change the random stats. I may get something like "Penetrating Tropical Island Map of Flaming SPiders". The mobs would have extra penetration and there would be a flaming spider boss.... It's reallly quite epic. Nearly unlimited end-game. On the last patch notes they add 10 new tile sets for end games maps, each of which is INFINITE random possibilities.

This game is awesome. I don't know how anyone can play diablo3 with a straight face when games like this are out there.

But I haven't been on to check the new patch, been on Black Desert Online... that shit is awesome.

I got back into playing it and so did my friend Moe from d3. They actually improved the game a ton from the time puff first made this thread. The game has more structure and they added an auction house to help you sell items so it has made the process of getting and selling items so much easier. Slax is still around, I have the guild made on the new season so feel free to stop in and play. I'm at work so I can't log in and figure out what my username is, but I will post it when I get home.

Think I got to like 25-30 then me and Corey got back on diablo 2 hahaha. Shits classic anyone on it? Lol
