Weapons are obviously the most important dps item for each class, but many people don't understand how it works!


Let's compare 2 weapons:

1. 1000 dps, +15%damage, +20% attack speed.
2. 1000 dps

Now, most people would think that weapon 1 is significantly better... but when both equip they will do the SAME DPS. Stats like +damage percent and attack speed are already factored into the weapons dps already. Comparing those weapons, the percent damage is meaningless. Attack speed makes the items slightly different. The faster attacking one will hit less hard but allow you to cast faster (which could be bad if you are having mana issues etc). So a majority of the 1k+dps weapons on the AH are simply decent blues with +40% damage for example.


Now lets compare a 3rd weapon:

3. 900 dps, 100int

You need a spreadsheet to determine stat values (way more than wow because of how much they vary). But for me that 100 int is worth more then 100 weapon dps. So, weapon 3 is the best choice for my Wizard even though it is WAY less dps then the others and probably cost 1/3 the price.


TL:DR - careful when getting weapons with +damage/AS affixes, only the primary stat affixes actually ADD to weapon dps beyond the number you see.

Where the hell are people finding all these weapons. One on the AH with almost 1800 top end 0_0. Nerf luck

1800 top end, was it a 0.9 attacks per second, or even less?

Those big slow hitting moves are great for certain kiting manuevers.
